Shadows over Daggerdale
Diary of Sul Flynn
The following was taken from the diary of Uther Flynt’s antecedent, the adventurer Sul Flynn.
27 Uktar – Candlekeep
After nearly a year searching the tomes here I think I have found it. There is an ancient book that tells of the great wizard Shuldra-Ki who was one of the Netherese High Magi. She wore a “Crown of Tears” that seemed to have been the source of much of her power. The reference I had was for Shadra-Ki but I’m sure it’s the same person.
According to this book, she raised her castle on a flying rock called Murann-Dorn which I think roughly translates as “Dragon’s Peak”. When the Netherese magic failed, Murann-Dorn fell from the sky somewhere over the Desertsmouth Mountains.
The Librarian, Thilarion, has been very helpful these past days. He managed to find a dwarven tome that tells of “The Time of Mourning and Sorrow” when “a granite sky brought fire and death from above.” I’m not sure about the dwarven calendar but Thilarion tells me he thinks it corresponds to the fall of Netheril.
The book is from the dwarven Kingdom of Tethyamar so it looks like I was right about the location. So not just Netherese artifacts, dwarven too. Godric will pay handsomely for those, assuming those dwarves didn’t pilfer everything themselves, greedy swine.
The Time of Mourning and Sorrow corresponds to the early days of Tethyamar when the dwarves built Bronden’s Halls, but abandoned it. Looks like Murann-Dorn landed right on top of them. They left it and went on to create Tethyamar.
Curses. I can’t find any mention of where Bronden’s Halls were. At this rate I’ll be an old man before I’m rich.
I shall have to leave an offering to Oghma, no mention of where Bronden’s Halls are, but I know how to get there. It seems that the dwarves built a network of back doors and escape tunnels in case of emergency. Explains why so many escaped the disaster. They had a set of portals that allowed them to travel to outlying posts and I have the location of one of the posts. At least now I can get out of Candlekeep and go somewhere. Daggerdale.
The portal should be a large mirror or polished sliver plate. The word I need to activate it is – Droshab – apparently an ancient dwarven term meaning make me rich.
